Mayonnaise and Salad Dressing Manufacturer |

APPLICATION: |
Drum / Container Filling |
|
OPERATION: |
Spices and seasonings are pre-blended by weight before being mixed in kettles with the other ingredients that make up the mayonnaise product. The finished product is than discharged into 4 palletized 55 gallon drums sitting on a 4 x 4 beam scale. |
|
Because the scale and control panels are at different floor levels it is necessary for a man to signal the control operator when to shut off the flow valve. This signal occurs when the beam goes through the set weight window. It was estimated the overfill of product averaged 15 pounds or 3.8 % of the 390 pounds net. During demonstration, the pallet truck scale was positioned so that the digital display could be viewed by the operator. This allowed him to anticipate the shutoff point, minimizing the over shoot to only 1 or 2 pounds. Because dribble jogging can abuse the product, separating oils from the mayonnaise, only one shutoff is recommended. JUSTIFICATION OF PALLET TRUCK SCALE: * A conservative estimate of material savings per drum was set at 5 pounds. * Cost per Mayonnaise is $ 1.00 per pound. * Savings per drum = $ 5.00 * Quantity of drums filled during 2 shifts = 120 * Total 1 day material savings = 600 pounds = $ 600.00 Additional amenities are: No need to call for a fork truck to remove filled drums and stage operation with new empty ones. Man on lower level is freed up for staging empty drums on pallets and inserting plastic liners. BOTTOM LINE: Pay back (return on investment @ $ 4,500.00) = less than 2 weeks. |
