USERS BUSINESS:

Plastic Bag Mfg.

APPLICATION:

General Weighing

OPERATION:

The manufacturing of plastic bags is a very competitive industry and like most companies working on pennies, watch product costs with extreme care. All plastic material must be accounted for, hence it is weighed and tagged before staging in front of each machine. All scrap is recycled with extruded raw material used to feed front end machine.

Approximately 15 machines are operating 24 hours per day, seven days per week making different types of garbage bags. Each machine has a scrap bin positioned next to it for collecting cuttings and defective product. Each scrap bin is weighed after each shift or 3 times per day. A total accounting is maintained on individual machines to determine production efficiency.

Before the pallet truck scale was purchased, each scrap bin was moved on a pallet truck to only floor scale that was located up to 1 / 8 miles from several machines, then returned to the same machine. Access to most machines by fork truck is impossible due to the narrow aisles and restricted area where collection bins are stored.

This operation required one person for 1 - 1 / 2 hours per shift, 3 shifts per day. Using the pallet truck scale has cut the required time down to 1 / 2 hour per shift, a savings of 1 hour per shift. That results in a savings of 3 hours per day or 21 hours per week.

Using the analogy a person is paid $ 25, 000.00 annually with fringe benefits to do this job, with the understanding more than one person would be involved because of the seven day operation and that person would perform other functions too, a savings of 21 hours per week would represent a 1 /2 person labor year.

With a savings of 1/ 2 of $ 25, 000.00 or $ 13, 500.00 annually, the return on investment would occur in little over 4 months.
